Albatross Clinic

The Albatross Clinic is a network of radical psychotherapists and psychoanalysts. Please write to albatrossclinic@protonmail.com to enquire about an initial consultation with a network member or see below for more information.

Clinicians in the network believe that our experience of ourselves and the world around us is at once irreducibly personal and takes shape in contexts that are structurally and politically determined. This belief is reflected in a commitment to therapy and analysis that is liberatory in the broadest sense. Network members endeavour to work in a way that is decolonial, anti-racist, class-conscious, feminist and trans- and queer-affirmative.

Fee-wise, the network is working to develop a redistributive sliding scale. Fees will be discussed at an initial consultation taking into account income and assets and where appropriate will be lower than the market rate for private psychotherapy.

Albatross Clinic FAQ:

What is psychoanalytic therapy?

Psychoanalysis starts from two ideas: that the past informs the present and that there is a lot about ourselves that we don’t know.

Over time, and through the special kind of speaking and listening that takes place in a psychoanalytic therapy, we can alter our relationship to the structures, thoughts and feelings that cause us to suffer.

Psychoanalysis can support change at an emotional and relational level. It can bring greater clarity and freedom, deepening our capacity for work and struggle, love and play.

Who is this kind of psychotherapy for?

Psychoanalytic work may suit people experiencing a crisis, turning point or ‘burnout’ as well as those wishing to address difficulties they have been living with for a long time.

Therapists and analysts in the network have experience of working with—among others—anxiety, depression, body issues, eating disorders, problems with focus and concentration, and the effects of trauma.

If you are unsure whether a psychoanalytic therapy is for you this can be discussed at an initial consultation. Therapists and analysts in the network do not charge for initial consultations.

How often will I need to attend and for how long?

A frequency of at least one session per week is usually required for this kind of therapy. Your analyst or therapist may propose meeting more frequently. Work can be open-ended or for an agreed time period.
